(F)UN Day

To celebrate the UN day on Saturday 24 October, SIS held its annual Parade of Nations on Friday morning. The parade allowed students to celebrate their cultures by walking around Johannesparken in their national costumes and posing proudly for pictures.

Mrs. Banashri Bose Harrison, Ambassador of India to Sweden and Latvia, came to the school to give a speech to the students, encouraging the celebrations. “The only way we can understand other cultures,” she said, “is to be open to them”.

The only way we can understand other cultures is to be open to them.

— Ambassador Harrison

In light of recent events in Trollhättan, the parade was especially important. Cultural differences are something to be celebrated, not feared, and our school is a good reminder of the fact that diversity leads to a greater understanding of the world we live in. In the words of Ambassador Harrison, “lasting global peace can only come from mutual understanding and respect … and, while we represent different nations, we must be united”.
