Rhinos

Rhinos

Alexane D., Guest Writer

Trying to protect rhinos is not full of wins as many a killed by poachers  who can sell the horns for huge sums of money.  Everyday rhinos are in danger and sometimes entire species become extinct. The job of the SIS Rhino group is to spread the message that rhinos are worth saving.

Recently, the Rhino Group received a certificate of appreciation from Project Rhino KZN. During 2015 we raised 252 euros (2,322.37 SEK) by selling rhino cookies and friendship bands.

Project Rhino KZN is a group of 18 organisations which are committed to stopping the poaching of White and Black rhinos in the KwaZulu-Natal reserve and preserve them for generations to come. All the money we donated goes to the protection of these animals.

Currently the Rhino Group is engaged in raising awareness through social media (see bottom of page).  We give people the opportunity to join show support for our cause by posing for  a picture in front of our poster.  The pictures are then shared on our Instagram account to further our goal of raising awareness.

We are trying to get into contact with other IB schools all over the world, spreading our message internationally as is fitting for an international school. In this way we hope to someday end poaching all together and stop the useless loss of lives caused by it. Working together now allows us to secure a future for all rhinos, and to make sure we will not be the last generation to see them.
