Nepal Trip 2017

The SIS Nepal Project gives our school community the opportunity to build a relationship with another school and to take action in creating a sustainable world.

Being part of the SIS Nepal Project is something that I will carry with me my whole life. It’s not only the trip that makes this experience so memorable, but it’s also being a part of a group that is passionate about about lending a helping hand.

One thing you learn about being a part of this group is that there is never a dull moment, and that includes the trip. After having to leave behind a student in Stockholm, we were all incredibly anxious. However as we hiked in the Himalayas the next day all our nerves seemed to fade away. Despite all the thrilling sightseeing activities, nothing beats working with the students at the Shila Devi Primary School.

Although it is our job to teach the students while we are there, somehow every time I go, I am surprised by how much they teach me. These kids enjoy simple things in life; something we seem to forget by being caught up in today’s society. They have an incredible mind set and unbeatable passion for learning which still leaves me breathless.

My heart aches knowing that this was my last year visiting these kids, however I am proud of what the group as a whole has accomplished in the past three years. I am thankful for the memories I have made along the way and hope for the best as the project continues to grow. I am forever grateful to these kids, and this project that SIS has undertaken.
