World Health Organisation: Fighting Typhoid

The World Health Organisation is perhaps one of the most important committees, concerning themselves with the wellbeing of the global community. At today’s SISMUN  the WHO is concerning themselves with Typhoid. We spoke to a chair of the committee, Braydon W. and asked him some questions about today’s debate.

The purpose of today’s session is to come to a conclusion on how to deal with typhoid disease. It is a very important and relevant issue because, as Braydon stated, ‘Millions of people are affected every year’ and it is ‘beneficial to take action’. Their aim today is to find a solution on how to prevent typhoid fever, especially in India where it’s a really big problem.

He hopes that in today’s session they will be able to have a successful discussion with active delegates. It is important that there will be ‘active participation from students’ as that’s what makes MUN so fun, the feeling of actual debate and engagement in the issue.

We asked Braydon why the Word Health Organisation is so important in today’s world. ‘Health care is a global issue world wide, that UN strives to solve’ he said. The committee can make a change in the world. As the topic of discussion is health, the issues discussed will always be relevant. He hopes that in today’s meeting they will ‘come to agreements on how to treat this deathly disease.’

While there, we talked to delegates representing Belgium and asked them about their opinions on the issue. Their resolutions is to contribute funds to health care.  25% of people in Belgium are affected by some form of typhoid so the issue discussed today is important to them. According to the delegates it is important to spread awareness about the disease.  They are hoping to bring change and provide better vaccinations to stop the spread of the disease.

They are currently in the process of working on resolutions. The QQ will update you on them once they’re done.
