Enjoying the language fair

On the 11th February 2015, the middle school students at SIS hosted their annual language fair. This years theme ´International TV Channel´ invited everyone to a trip around the world in two hours. The focus of the evening is on the main 4 languages that are taught at SIS and representing them at the fair by the language classes in grades 6 and 8.

The evening kicked off at 16:30 in the auditorium with an introduction to the evening presented in English, Spanish, French and Swedish by 4 different students currently studying that specific language. Many parents attended.

Later, at around 17:00, each class presented the language they learn by performing short plays, presentations, quizzes and other forms of interactions with the audience. The children did a great job and it was clear that they had put a lot of teamwork and class effort into these presentations which ran very smoothly. For those who missed it the first time round, each presentation was repeated at 18:00 with the same standard.

As per the tradition, each class prepared and displayed traditional food from the country of the language they study, which, speaking on behalf of most people, was a great initiative and tasted amazing! They used this as an opportunity for every ‘food stall’ to have a donation box for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, UNESCO and encourage the consumers to donate and contribute a little bit.

This not only represents a fraction of the cultural diversity of SIS but also the effort and work students put in to keep acquiring languages on top of their mother tongue. Safe to say, this event was a success that didn’t fail to project the enthusiasm and positive attitude of the school. Congratulations to all the students and teachers who contributed and worked hard to put up the event!
