One Piece
Creator: Eiichiro Oda
Main Character: Monkey D. Luffy
1997 – Present (Manga), 1998 – Present (Anime)
“One Piece” is one of the most successful anime of today, along with “Naruto” and “Bleach”. It is known for its hilarious moments and its plot depth. Although it might sound a bit sketchy to be following the story of a pirate and his ambitions, “One Piece” portrays Luffy to be the most kind-hearted and dim-witted captain in the pirate world. The show follows Luffy and his search for new nakama (comrades) to join him on his journey. If you’re not willing to try “Naruto”, then why not try “One Piece”?
The Plot: The series begins with the execution of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger. Just before his death, he announced that his treasure would be available to anyone, permitted that they find it. This sent everyone to the seas, especially one particular boy: Monkey D. Luffy. In a world where power is obtained by Devil Fruits (fruits that give you a special power when eaten), Luffy has eaten the Gum-Gum fruit and become a rubber man. In search for a crew to embark on to the Grand Line (the greatest sea in the world), Luffy must meet countless foes and use his rubber powers to become THE COOLEST pirate in the world. Now that is my opinion and I highly doubt he is self-absorbed as he is actually pretty stupid. It adds to the humor of the show.
Granted, this is animated and may not seem appealing to you, but given the chance, the show will absolutely suck you into its pirate world. So don’t take One Piece and Luffy so lightly. Besides, if you’re up for binge watching, you have a good 680 something episodes to catch up on!
