DP Takes on the Teachers in FFN
Fit for Nepal is coming to SIS for the second time! This week, Jan 25th – 29th will be marked by different sports activities with the ultimate goal of raising money for the Nepal Project. The PTA, the chief organisers of the whole programme, have prepared a whole arsenal of activities. From a Taekwondo workshop to a goofy teacher race.
This year the DP was closely involved in FFN. The PTA made an offer to grades 11 and 12. If we were able to raise 3500 kronor by January 26th, we would get the last two periods free and have a chance to compete against the teachers in basketball and a speed race. The 11th and 12th grade team had a chance to take on the teachers. Surprisingly the youngest competitors, 11th graders, took the title of the best basketball team. Because of a tie against the 12th graders, total points scored was taken into consideration. 29, 27 and 21 for the 11th grade, 12th grade and teachers respectively.
After the mini tournament the DP participated in quick sequence of 20 short competitive games. What was really interesting is that no two challenges were the same, making the whole event full of interesting games. Of course with that came and mistakes that players did, that sometimes lead to spectacular losses. As each team desperately clutched victory, the crowd cheered their own.
After the games, the winners of the contest were announced. To the shock and awe of the 11th graders, they couldn’t keep their lead and ended up in the last place in the event. With the teachers nabbing the title of the overall best. With the 12th graders coming in second.
While the event was great fun, it also had it’s purpose. It was hosted in order to raise money for the SIS Nepal Project. A whopping 3671 kronor was raised. To put this into context, this buys shoes for the entire school of 60 kids, or buys 734 lunches. The goal was set at 25.000 kronor, and the school looks set to topple that.
Credit for the successes of the event, along with all the motivated participants, belongs to the PTA and all of the teachers and parents who volunteered to help. Ms. Arler, Ms Marcellus, Ms. Fredin and Ms.Spiers headed the organisation of the event, but in an interview Ms. Arler was quick to compliment, 50 “rocking parent volunteers,” 30 teachers and the countless student helping out.
The Fit For Nepal week isn’t over. The crown jewel of the event is this Friday. Do not miss the Goofy Teacher Relay Race in the main building auditorium right after school on Friday. Perhaps the most unusual part is the pieing of the teachers. Over the past week votes have been collected for which teacher gets the pie in the face. Don’t miss your chance to vote, and see you there!
