Final Moments
February 12, 2016
The SISMUN conference ended spectacularly with the closing ceremony held at the ABF House. The Deputy Secretary General, Kresimir introduced the afternoon session by thanking all the delegates for the enthusiasm shown and the productive participation. He remarked that some students had felt uncomfortable at the prospect of speaking in public, but was glad that they all got to take part of this experience as the skills used today are guaranteed to help us all in the future.
Sabu, the Secretary General presented the topic of this year’s conference and highlighted the struggles that many countries face due to worldwide diseases. This was very relevant due to the now largely affecting Zika virus.
Sabu was followed by the under secretary generals who were all very pleased with the day. A common theme in what they said was student engagement, bold and interesting ideas that led to heated debates and unprecedented levels of participation.
Unfortunately the speaker, Bertrand Sudre from European Centre for Disease Control (ECDC), had to cancel at the last minute due to involvement in the prevention of the spread of Zika virus. This brought home to all the delegates the relevance of this year’s topic for SISMUN.
Each ambassador presented a summary of his/her country’s participation in the conference. These ranged from informative, factual and intelligent to intriguing and detailed. Many had shaped final solutions and verdicts that could easily be adopted by politicians today.
The presidents of each committee gave out awards for the best delegates. Awards went to both students of SIS and our visiting schools.
Sabu held a heartfelt speech which marked the end of his involvement with SISMUN. More can be read about this here.
Kresimir and Agnes closed the ceremony by thanking the visiting schools for their participation. Agnes’s comments were sincere and personal, she explained how her first experience was 5 years ago, and SISMUN has grown. Kresimir added his thoughts about the growth of our annual conference and hoped it would continues to improve and expand. This was truly a great experience that many people will remember forever
See you at next year’s MUN!
