Juniors Victorious, Seniors Disappointed
February 15, 2016
Last week (February 5th), both senior and junior (boys) SIS basketball teams played a friendly match against Sigtuna. The senior boys didn’t have much confidence before the game, since Sigtuna is a school that is focused on sports, while SIS doesn’t have much basketball history on its side. Neither of the two 12th graders, the star players, Lukas and Filippo, could make it to the match. Many believe that they are crucial for the success of the team.
The juniors played first. While it wasn’t an easy match, SIS came out on top winning with 30 to 22. The juniors celebrated their victory and encouraged the seniors to show Sigtuna that SIS is strong at basketball.
From the moment the senior game started, it was clear that the lack of players would make it a challenge. The first quarter of the game ended with a score of 3 to 4 with Sigtuna in the lead. It was clear that both teams were doing their best to secure the victory. But, with only 9 players, the SIS team fell behind and ended up losing to Sigtuna 44 to 21. While it was a crushing defeat, the seniors tried to stay in good mood.
A great victory for the juniors and a disappointing defeat for the seniors. It was clear that seniors needed their missing players. Filippo is usually the main point guard and no one was able to fill that hole.
Sigtuna has quite a reputation as a strong sporting school and success in basketball is not new for their team. While SIS has been in great shape with basketball for the past few years, there’s always room for improvement and maybe next year SIS will get the chance to prove their strength.
