Leader Series – Vice Principal, MYP
May 4, 2016
This week we are continuing our leader series by introducing the MYP vice principal position here at SIS: Ms.Hellström. She is most well known for her position as PHE teacher but now she has taken on another role – that of MYP vice principal. The MYP vice principal is responsible for the 5 year levels from 6th grade to 10th grade.
As the new MYP vice principal, she looks after day to day events, has good contact with the students, and also processes student applications to the school. Just like the other vice principals her role is to help and support the teachers in the MYP with any issues or concerns. Anyone who wants to hold an event discusses it with Ms.Hellström. She is off to a good start but like any other role it requires a bit of time to settle in. She is feels she is enjoying her role because it’s something completely new to her.
The phone restriction in the main building and the annexe B was a massive change to the overall environment of the middle school. Part of Ms.Hellströms role is to make sure that the environment in the school is fun and social. In general, Ms Hellström has received a lot of feedback about the mobile phone restrictions. Most people see it as a positive change that has been welcomed by the parents and some students too.
As vice principal, Ms.Hellström’s most important goal is to create a good working environment. She aims to create an environment that is both helpful and supportive to the teachers in the MYP. Together with the other vice principals and the Head of Learning, she will work to share her thoughts on improvements and ways to create a better school.
