Alexane, 3 Monkeys, and Hamlet
June 3, 2016
Grade 11 student Alexane directed a play in which Tina, Gabby and Taylor from grades 8 and 9 performed. It was a great success with parents and students enjoying it immensely. The QQ interviewed the director Alexane about her experience.
What was your play about?
The play was about these 3 monkeys in a scientific experiment. The experiment itself was to see whether if they were locked up enough for a long time would they write Hamlet.
How was the reception to your play?
A lot more people came than we expected. We expected around 50 people, but around 100 people ended showing up .
Did it go as you planned it to go?
Yes, it went really well. I was hoping for the best and that’s exactly what happened.
What was the biggest challenge?
I never directed a play before, so learning what was required for that, it was a challenge, one of our actors had to be replaced last second, that was stressful. But we managed to bounce back.
Snacks were being sold, was the money used for something?
The money is being used next year, to afford a better stage and a better production. We’re going to re-invest it to give SIS theater a feel we believe it deserves.
What is something you would do differently next time?
If I were to do it again, a bigger production, with more people.
It was a great play, and we hope we get to see more of Alexane’s plays in the future.
