Viva España!
June 8, 2016
We met at the airport at 10 to start our Barcelona adventure. We were all so excited knowing that we’re going to see and experience so many cool things, but unfortunately we could not start this adventure straight away because the flight was with delayed by 2 hours!
After our delayed start, we arrived in Barcelona. We had to eat quickly because we were booked to see a Flamenco show. We had our first contact with the local people, ordering our own food and drink. We ate a typical Spanish Bocadillo with “jamon y queso”. ¡Está muy delicioso! This was followed by a stunning flamenco performance – the highlight and a great end to our first day.
After breakfast each day, we had our Spanish classes in the hotel. We learned how to ask for directions, order food and drink in a restaurant and buy souvenirs. We also had culture lessons to prepare for our visits.
We visited a lot of different places to learn about Spanish culture: architecture, paintings, history, sports and food. These included La Sagrada Familia, Museum of Salvador Dalí in Figueres, La Boqueria Market, Casa Batlló, Milá, Vicens designed by Gaudí, and Camp Nou the sports stadium. We had tastes delicious Spanish food such as tapas, paella and churros.
We needed to leave at 7am to visit the museum of the painter Salvador Dalí, in Figueres outside of Barcelona. Afterwards we visited the village where he lived, in Cadaqués. The museum was amazing! In Cadaqués we were also able to swim so the day was very well spent!
The last day, after our daily class, we had a wonderful time playing and relaxing at the beach. We saw many great sights, but one the that was especially memorable was the Sagrada Familia an incredible a cathedral designed by Gaudí that has taken over 100 years to build and is still not complete.
This trip improved our language skills and created new friendships. Every day of it was well planned. Just being in Barcelona with the sun and the mixed classes was a great experience.
