Fit For Nepal Fun
The Fit For Nepal week has become a feature of the SIS school year and we can say that it has been especially successful this time around in terms of both the engagement from the school and the amount of money raised. A number of fun activities took place throughout the week, culminating in the final event on Friday, 27th January.
On Thursday 12th, sometime before the Fit For Nepal week, the DP had an afternoon full of exciting activities. In order to have made this event possible the DP Student Council held a fundraiser and collected more than the expected amount of 4500 kr.
The afternoon started with a basketball tournament between the 11th graders, the 12th graders and the DP teachers. After very heated and tight games, the 12th graders ended up victorious. Considering that the 12th graders were in the lead, both the teachers and the 11th graders were well motivated going into the next activity – the minute-to-win-it games. After ten intense competitions, the 11th graders came out on top. Hopeful to have won the whole event, the 11th graders cheered. However, luck was not on their side and the 12th graders turned out to be the ultimate champions. Heads held high, they spent the rest of the week with pride. The whole experience was a great way to temporarily break down the barrier between the teachers and the students.
The actual Fit For Nepal week was composed of multiple exercise classes. From self-defence to circuit training, and even yoga, the week was filled with healthy fun for students, teachers, and parents. We want to thank all the volunteers for their time and effort!
The main event took place on Friday. The event started off with five consecutive minutes of pie throwing at the two winners from last year’s event, Mr. Evans and Ms. Larsson. But it was not over yet! Next, there was a relay race where the teachers from the primary and secondary school competed for the title. This included dressing up the team captains, Ms. Raider and Mr. Osler, with everything from dresses to wigs. Then, there were tricycles and hula hoops. The primary teachers tried hard following last year’s defeat, but to no avail. The secondary teachers took the lead and once again, and came out victorious. Needless to say, these activities were fun for everyone involved.
And so, pie throwing, once again, took over the stage. Announcing this year’s winner, it was revealed that there were only four votes separating the first two secondary teachers: Mr. Mac and Mr. AI. However, Mr. Mac was the big winner. Five eager students were called up (their names were pulled out of the lottery box) and took their turns throwing whipped cream pies. In a turn of events, a student broke the rules and got too close to the teacher. Naturally, he got creamed as well. The event was a huge success and a great experience for students, parents, and teachers alike.
We would like to everyone who contributed to these events, as well as the people who donated towards the cause. In conclusion, SIS has raised close to 35,000 kr for the Fit For Nepal week and the school had lots of fun making this possible. It is inspiring to see the SIS community getting more and more engaged in the Nepal Project.
