Meet the New Dean of Students!
As many of you may know, SIS has a brand new Dean of Students: Gunjit Sethi.
The Quirky Quibbler had the chance to meet Ms. Sethi and ask her everything you would have wanted to know!
Ms. Sethi is from New Delhi, India and has lived here for… exactly 3 years and 14 days! This is actually not her first time working at SIS. She worked here about 2 ½ years ago when she first arrived in Sweden. During this period she worked mainly with the MYP and IPC students. Ms. Sethi has previously worked in schools where her role has been similar to that of a Dean of Student, but this is her first time with this title at SIS.
What is your first impression of SIS?
I love it here! The day I first walked into SIS, I instantly loved the fact that the faculty and students all wore welcoming smiles on their faces. I am also very impressed with the student body of this school, where all the students are kind, welcoming and friendly. There is an amazing culture of this school.
What does your job entail? What is your role as the Dean of Students?
My job concerns responsibilities that are related to students and the student body. I deal with the well-being of the students. I find this very important. I connect the wellbeing and mental health of the student to their academics. I also work with different events, co-curricular activities, extracurriculars for example currently the Spirit Week and the UN day. I am also here in general if you need someone to talk to!
How is SIS different from other schools you have worked at?
The involvement of the students, teachers, and parents is something special about this school. All of the responsibilities and activities are split equally – the PTA has a large role – the students are very involved in decision making. Everyone supports each other. Also, there is a very fine balance between fun and school work, discipline, and expectations, which is great!
What does a typical workday look like for you?
I don’t really have a typical work day, which is one of the things I love about this job! I have very different things to do every day. For example, if there are events coming up, such as Spirit Week of UN day, then they are one of my main focuses.
What are some of the most exciting projects you’ve worked on so far?
So far, spirit week has been exciting, seeing all the students dressing up and the activities that revolve around it. I also had a large role in the health week which was fun for me, with the breakfast and all the activities!
What is your hope for SIS in the future?
More events to be organized by the student body, which I have seen that the 11th and 12th graders are very capable of already. I wish to pass this down to the younger students as well to give them the same opportunities. I also wish to take everything the school is already doing and ensure that it will all be carried on.
If you ever want to have someone to talk to, Ms. Sethi has an office in the main building on the 1st floor. You can always just stop by and say hello!
