DP Student Council Election Day
As December is nearing and our 12th graders are getting ready for their exams, the time has come for many DP groups and clubs to pass their legacies down to the 11th graders. The DP student council will be holding elections for the new President and Vice President roles for the 11th graders. The election will take place on Wednesday November 15th at 10:30 in C7. Seeing as this is the DP Student Council, only 11th and 12th grade students are allowed to vote, but keep an eye out for the winners later in the week. This years candidates are: Elle Banerjee running for President with Lauren Metrolis running for Vice President, and Dea Poriazova running for President with Tess Engvall running for Vice President.
Friendly competition is taking place now, and no matter who wins, the DP student council will be in great hands. If you are in the DP, don’t forget to stop by C7 on Wednesday, listen to the candidates give their speeches and cast your vote! Much like the recent elections held for the MYP Student Council, this is an opportunity for the DP students to let their voices be heard and to make their won decisions!
President candidate Ella B said, “I would love the opportunity to be everyone’s student council president for the next two year since I am confident we can all work together to plan fun events and better the DP community.” Her partner, running for Vice President, Lauren M said, “I know that everyone here is capable of doing such as great job as Vice President or President, but I personally believe in the quote, “if you want something done right you have to do it yourself, ” and I have a lot of great ideas I would like to implement in annexe C.” Tess E, Vice President candidate, commented, “Wanna taste the change? I’m about to bring the fire.” Dea P, running for President commented, “in my opinion it isn’t about being president or winning, in reality it’s about choosing someone who you know has the capacity and ability to deliver a change and accomplish what is necessary. As president, student council will be my top priority as Tess and I will focus on reevaluating and reconstructing the already established ideas by the previous board of the Student Council.”
It is great to see the 11th graders stepping up to the plate and wanting to make their own type of change by being a part of the DP student council. This election is just one example of how the SIS community is embracing its students and allowing everyone to be an important part in the working community. We look forward to hearing their speeches on Wednesday!
