From IB student to Hip Hop Star
Our Junior reporter Fanni, writes here about hip hop dancer, Navid, who held workshops for the MYP students last week. She tells us how Navid Rezmani came to be a dancer.
Navid was born in Iran, but lives presently in Norway. Why did he move away from Iran? Well, most of us from SIS move because of the will to travel more, or because of our parents’ jobs, but his father had a mission which was held in Malaysia. He met a lot of kids there, but he couldn’t speak English so it was hard to communicate with others.
After the mission in Malaysia, his father got another mission, this time in the Philippines. After spending kindergarten in Malaysia learning English, Navid could interact and communicate with others much more than he could back in Malaysia. Later his father got another mission, this time in Norway, where he lives now. At that point, Navid was completely fluent in English and started studying in an IB school in Oslo ((just like us!) .
During all this time, he always had a best friend. TV!! Navid loves TV and likes to watch and learn the moves of these 3 heroes:
1: MICHAEL JACKSON!
2: BRUCE LEE!
3: SPIDERMAN!
These heroes influenced his life a lot. But how, you might wonder. The answer to that question is that once he saw these heroes on TV, he became inspired and copied them. He became better and better. As a big fan of the three heroes, he went to school and found something very special. Navid saw a poster about dancing lessons and saw them dancing dressed as his heroes! On the poster were Michael Jackson, Spiderman and Bruce Lee all in one go! He wanted to apply, but then some people said that he didn’t have the talent or that Navid wouldn’t be good at it.
Navid did a great thing – he didn’t care. He applied to a dancing course and that’s how Navid Rezmani took the first step in his career as a hip hop dancer.
