SIS students take on MUNISS in Stuttgart!

On April 19th, nine MYP students along with two teachers boarded a plane to Stuttgart, Germany on their way to the annual MUNISS  (Model United Nation International School Stuttgart) conference. There they were greeted by stellar weather, with the temperatures being on the upwards of twenty-seven degrees°C.

At the opening ceremony of MUNISS 2018, they listened to a speech made by lawyer Christoph Rueckel who discussed his work, and the importance of implementing the rule of law.

The next day, the students were split up in their respective committees discussing issues ranging from the accountability of UN Peacekeepers on missions, to promoting worldwide acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community. Delegates debated for hours on which resolutions should pass, along with the amendments. After the first day in session, most committees had voted on a resolution for their first topic.

On the second day, committees moved on to discuss their second topic. The long, seven hour sessions were rewarded by a party which took place at the AER Club in Stuttgart, where delegates swapped their suits and dresses for more casual attire.

The last day of the conference started with the General Assembly, in which all countries debated and voted to pass resolutions. The three day conference ended with a closing ceremony, where delegates were rewarded for their performances. With their newly acquired MUNISS water bottles in hand, the students and teachers boarded their plane back to Stockholm.
