Silent struggles
Inspired by: “Not Waving But Drowning” by Stevie Smith
In the ocean depths. I hide,
An old soul that has died.
They see me fall, mistake my pain,
Their laughter rings in my ears, I sink again
I call for help, they see me float
Assuming happiness, as I choke.
I scream, but the surge suppresses my plea,
My silent cry for sympathy
Remember, friends, as you sail by,
A smile can disguise a desperate cry.
Beneath the surface, a soul is sinking.
Not howling for help, but silently struggling
