DISEC 1 featured some incredibly unexpected plot twists in the debate about Cyber Warfare.
In the midst of the conversation about Cyber Warfare, ‘Germany’ made an interesting claim, that ‘Russia’ had not stood up or used the correct pronouns.
The delegates from ‘Germany’ said that ‘Russia’s’ ignorance about the proper pronouns and refusal to stand up suggested that ‘Russia’ does not care for these causes. ‘Russia’ heatedly rebutted the claims. Despite the formality of the Model United Nations, there was some laughter amongst the delegates, ensuring a happy mood amongst the students. The UAE asked for the topic to be changed.
The supervisor gave a heartwarming statement about how proud she was that the delegates wer so passionate about the topics, and that was exactly how she had wanted the MUN to go.
The topic is then changed to the “Prioritisation of combating cyber warfare.” The delegate from the United Kingdom started off strong, and Germany agreed with the suggestions. The UAE gave an impactful statement about their take of the prioritisation of combating cyber warfare.
A short while after, ‘Russia’ made a claim to which the United States hastily responded. “That is based on absolutely no facts, at all!”
As discussions continued on, the delegates for Russia and Germany went at each other once more and continued to discuss the topic.
‘Germany’ exclaimed: Cyber warfare is a war, a war we cannot afford to lose!”
After lots of discussion, the delegation of India requested to give the chairs a gift – a cake baked by the delegate himself. This also evoked some laughter amongst the other delegates and increased the enthusiasm within the group.
It is evident that the students in this room were more than ready to prepare this topic, and the heat was definitely present! Despite discussing serious topics and debating with each other, it is evident that the students still had lots of joy and were able to have fun together, communicating and feeling comfortable amongst each other to participate with joy. What an amazing representation of what MUN Day should be all about!
