Kindness Week was organised by the House Committee of SIS. The idea behind this annual joyful week is to spread kindness and school spirit, and it did just that.
Valentine’s day was the first official day, and the exclusive challenge for this day was ‘to find your other half’. This was an activity that included around 500 heart halves that were spread out amongst classes. Students were required to find the other heart half that matched the number on theirs. This allowed for students to interact with each other and talk to people who they perhaps haven’t met before. Once they found their other half, they had to submit a photo together in order to receive house points for their house. This was a roaring success as so many people submitted their photos. At the end, when scores were counted, there was a clear winner, Earth House.
Later in the following week, there were activities in the Atrium during lunch and break times. One was the creation of pearl-beaded hearts with the Swedish flag on key chains, to give to the Nepal Project. The Nepal Project will then give these hearts to the students in Nepal, as a gift that aims to unite and create a connection between their students and ours.
Similarly, students also made cards and drawings for the Nepal students, that had riddles on them and sweet messages for the Nepal students to enjoy. This activity is a heartfelt way also for our students to learn more about cultural exchanges and how to interact with students in different places.
Each time they finished one of these crafts the students were given stickers in their house colour to put on a board where we measured how many people from each house made a craft. These two particular activities were extremely popular especially amongst the younger students as they were rushing and giggling the whole time they were making these little gifts. They were so excited to make these presents for the students in Nepal and also enjoyed competing against each other to see who could make the most and acquire the most stickers.
Lastly there was also a kindness table, where students could write kind messages on sticky notes and then display them on the table. This allowed students to interact and spread kindness quickly and efficiently, whilst also gaining house points. This was also extremely popular amongst the older students. When I passed by the table, lots of students were writing compliments and little jokes, and were honestly just having a good laugh reading all of the kindness notes. This was the exact point of the kindness week, to spread love and joy, so I think it is safe to say that the week was super successful.
These three challenges were also all three won by Earth house. As an Earth House Captain, I am so proud to see not only earth house students, but all students working together, sharing kindness and being so motivated to participate in house challenges. It is so refreshing to see such amazing school spirit, and I can’t wait to see what is to come. Well done to all the students for making this week so special, as well as all of the teachers and House Committee members who helped organise the event.
