Stockholm International School (SIS) students have challenged themselves to make a difference and take initiative, unlike many, the two MYP5 students Filip F. and Carl H. won the Sustainable Poetry Challenge. Sustainable Poetry, a national challenge and event of which has been discussed often, has echoed through SIS’s hallways for the past week. This year Carl and Filip caught the attention of Sweden. The theme of the challenge was, “Courage to make change-diversity and compassion ( mod att förändra – mångfald och medkänsla)”.
The poems, which received widespread praise and attention, will be published in the anthology for Sustainable Poetry on the website’s homepage. However the recognition of hard work doesn’t end there as the students’ poems will be read all over Sweden. This incredible display of talent from both students truly embodies SIS’s values and commitment to ethics and sustainability. Furthermore, the two winners excelled in a way, which fully embodies the core value of Sustainable Poetry which strives to raise awareness of two UN sustainability goals – goal 4.0 (eliminating gender and wealth disparities in primary and secondary schooling by 2030) and the 4.7, (ensuring that all learners acquire the necessary skills, values and education to
promote sustainability, moreover including awareness of important discussions like gender inequality, sustainable lifestyles, promotion of culture and peace/non-violence and even global citizenship.)
As a community, both students and teachers feel so proud to see the growing talent and truly hope to see more students sharing their poetry in the future. Well done to Carl H. and Filip F.
