What are Last Year’s Graduates up to Now?

Last year’s SIS graduates have moved on to new and exciting places in the world pursuing their interests. The QQ was able to catch up with 6 of last year’s grade 12s.  All have gone on to further studies ranging from gourmet cooking to aerospace engineering. Here’s what they said about life after the IB Diploma Programme.

Siska, one of SIS’s last year graduates, is taking some time off from university courses to pursue the title of chef and maître. Siska is currently living in Belgium.

“The course I study gives an opportunity for many… to follow their passion and become a chef in one year,” said Siska.

She greatly appreciates the challenges this course brings, but also the great amounts of fun and enjoyment.

Moia L. also feels a sense of relief in being done with the IB. However, she feels that college is much easier than she anticipated having completed the IB Diploma Programme.

She is currently studying graphic design and psychology at Brigham Young University (BYU)- Hawaii and enjoys her time there. She also looks forward to what the future holds for her.

“Being done with the IB feels like such an important part of your life is suddenly over,” said Lukas B. He expresses how after graduating from SIS, he almost felt empty and at loss of what to do.

Nevertheless, he has moved on to study aerospace engineering at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands.

“I definitely feel like I am challenging myself, considering the pass rate of most of the courses is around 30% of the program,” reflects Lukas. Similarly to Moia, Lukas expected college to be fairly easy after the IB but is glad that he is also being challenged at the same time.

Lukas is confident that he will be pursuing a masters if he wants to become an engineer; however he is still somewhat undecided whether he will continue studying at Delft University or continue his degree at another college.

Linnéa B, one of the founders of the Quirky Quibbler, also feels amazed to be done with the IB, and is enjoying her time in the UK studying English language and linguistics at Kent University. After finishing her undergraduate, Linnéa hopes to teach English during a gap year before pursuing her masters.

Sophie, the other founder the Quirky Quibbler, currently studies Law and Social Sciences at the University of Hong Kong. Although Sophie appreciates the broader freedom she has unearthed at university, she reflects how she sometimes misses the crowded halls of SIS despite the burden of the IB.

“The last two years of school were so busy I sometimes forgot to take the time to enjoy them.”

As the two founders of the Quirky Quibbler, it is wonderful to see how Linnéa and Sophie have both incorporated some form of their journalistic skills into their current university studies.

Overall, it is wonderful to see where last year’s graduates are now and how they have all pursued their individual interests to do what they most like.
