MYP Winter Sports Day 2017

MYP Winter Sports Day

Last week, the MYP had its annual Winter Sports Day. The students participated in a vast array of fruitful activities, from ice skating (year 6), badminton (year 7), rock climbing (year 8), martial arts (year 9) and fencing (year 10). Below are a few personal accounts concerning the sports day. Audra C. (7v) writes about her endeavours in badminton and the competition that she took part in during the day, maintaining that the sports day was a successful event. Her classmate, Victoria G. (7v) also took part in badminton. Although she had a bit of struggle at first, she persevered and found herself enjoying the activity. Victoria remains unsure of whether her classmates thought that badminton was fun, but she insists that she had a good time. Hilda E (9p) has written about taekwondo – the activity that her class took part in. Hilda remains supportive of the activity, although she expresses that there were mixed feelings about the extent of the physically straining exercises.

Here are the students accounts of the day:

My class and I took the train to a badminton stadium. First, we took part in some free play and then we completed a few drills. Soon thereafter, we began our tournament. I played against Louise at first and having won, I moved on to the next round. After playing against Riam, I participated in a match against Anna. I lost but I was not disheartened as everyone had such a great time. Our class is quite competitive so everyone had lots of win participating in this makeshift tournament. I would say that this time around, the Sports Day was a successful event

– Audra C. (7v)

My class and I went to a place called Enskede Raketthall where we played some badminton. I practiced with Kelly at first, but it did not go so well. She thought that I should have a teacher help me. And so, I practiced with the teacher and another one of my friends, Irene. We even had a practice match. Then, the tournaments began. Overall, the activity went quite well. I am not avid fan of sports but I found myself enjoying badminton. I believe my classmates had fun, although I am not sure whether everyone was completely thrilled by the activity at first.

– Victoria G.(7v)

During Sports Day, our class went to a taekwondo studio near Karlaplan. There, we were given a chance to use our previous knowledge of martial arts. Taekwondo was one of the units we had completed in our physical education class. Since we arrived at the studio far too early, we were instead directed to Fältöversten. After relaxing for a short while, we returned to the taekwondo studio. A martial arts instructor kicked us off with a light warm-up. We did some jogging, some lunges and other similar exercises. Upon completing the warm-up, we paired up and started practicing our kicks. The instructor had us practising both taekwondo and engaging in activities that improve cardiovascular fitness. I found taekwondo quite enjoyable, although some of my classmates were not entirely happy about some of the physically straining activities. Nevertheless, taekwondo gave us the opportunity to challenge ourselves.

– Hilda E. (9P)

Overall it was a great sports day thanks to all the teachers and especially the PHE teachers who made it fun for all students.
