Graduates of 2017: What are they up to now?

Elena D., Editor

Since graduating, last year’s 12th graders have moved on to new and exciting things, following their ambitions and passions. The Quirky Quibbler was able to get in contact with some of the graduates, each of whom shared their stories about life after graduating, ranging from fashion design to law and much more.

Parsons University in Paris

Elle S, one of last year’s graduates, is studying at Parsons University in Paris, pursuing a Bachelor in Fashion Design and Marketing. “It is challenging because there is a much higher workload and I am in a school where all other students have similar ambitions, but it all motivates me to work even harder,” she said. She is grateful for having taken the IB program in a school like SIS as it helped her end up in her dream university; she is glad to see that the stress that she endured and the hard work that she put in over the past two years finally paid off. She also reflected on life at SIS, expressing how “I loved SIS because of the close environment we were in. We were always together laughing together or helping each other get through school”.

Aaron L. began university earlier this week, studying his Bachelors in Accounting and Finance in Leeds, England. Afterwards, he is aiming to achieve a masters degree. Despite the fact that he will miss the interactive teachers who guided him and his classmates through the two-year long Diploma Programme, he expressed that “being done with the IB, and the day I received my results, was a true moment of satisfaction for the work that I put in as a student.”

Since graduating SIS, Stine S. has moved to the United States, where she is studying General Business at Auburn University in Alabama. Alongside her studies, she also represents her university as a member of their soccer team. Her team has recently traveled to several universities in the south-east United States as they prepare to take part in the Gulf South Conference.

“I am ready to start with something new and something I have been waiting to do my whole life – architecture has always been my dream,” Marko S. said of his current studies. He is attending Northumbria University in Newcastle, where he is studying for a Bachelor of Architecture; he then wishes to continue with architecture at a higher level in order to receive accreditation to work as an architect.

Many have also moved on to study law, including Isabella Ö, one of last year’s QQ editors, who is now attending Stockholm University; David R. who has returned to his home country, Colombia; as well as Irene J. who is studying in Madrid. Mariana R. has taken a different route and will soon begin to study languages/translation in German and Spanish at the University of  Vienna, Austria. Kresimir K., last year’s other QQ editor, will soon begin studying Economics at Oxford University.

Isabella Ö. and Sofia W. with their IB certificates

Unlike the majority of the other graduates who were contacted, Naomi A. is taking a gap year, during which she is modeling with ELITE models in Europe as well as occasionally working as an assistant in the real estate industry. Sofia W. is working as an instructor at a climbing center here in Stockholm as well as taking a science course part-time; following this, she intends to apply for an architecture major.

All of the graduates agreed that they were relieved to have finished the IB program, however, they also felt that it better prepared them for their futures and further studies. All in all, it is fascinating to be able to see where they are now, and how they have moved on to be able to pursue their interests and what they enjoy most since graduating.
