Size is Just a Number
One of today’s smallest committees, the Committee of Ageing Population, holds only six delegations— while others hold up till 20. Yet, despite their small number, the air is tense and focused, all students very involved in the process of debating and discussing.
So, what were some of the problems with a small committee? “Well, they needed a lot of prompting at the beginning in order to get them to talk,” says Alex Hajman, one of the chairs, “but after the unmoderated caucus, it became a lot more interactive and less dependent on us.” The chairs also mentioned that a larger number of delegates might have helped in having more opinions on the floor, however, while they lacked in number, both the chairs and the delegates were able to make up for it with their determination and investment.
