In order to know a little more about the famous MUN Day, and how you can prepare yourself for what is to come, we have decided to interview a couple people that have participated on MUN Day previously, that know the best tips and tricks you should know to ensure your success.
Tip 1 from Cecilia B. – two time winner of ‘best delegate’ on MUN Day.
“So, basically what you need to be for in order to become the best delegate is to have a lot of communication skills, you need to be able to communicate with everyone and you need to be able to be open-minded towards other people’s ideas. You have to get relevant ideas that align with the topics that are being talked about and you need to participate. In order to be the best delegate you must also be there both mentally and physically in conversation.”
Tip 2 from Ashwika S. – MUN Chair and SISMUN Organising Committee Member.
– “A good way to look at it is by having some research on some national policies about what your country is doing in relation to the topic and international collaboration so they have with other countries in relation to what they’re doing with the topic. That’s pretty much what you need as a beginner. And then you can have an opening speech about your country’s position and what you’re looking forward to in the debate and some sub topics that you want to discuss.
For example if your topic is climate change, now climate change is such a vast topic and to subcategorize it you can specifically talk about the carbon emissions of each country and you can talk about some policies and try to find solutions for everything.
– For the resolution you have to write, make sure you just have a good list of solutions, they don’t need to be very in-depth but just some brief idea of everything you want to do with some clauses which you can do by finding some sample clauses.
– Lastly, just try to constantly be actively participating through points of inquiries, asking questions and trying to get into the debate. Points of inquiries are a great way to feel included and to contribute. ”

Tip 3 from Ms. Schmidt – MUN coordinator
The most important part is to have fun! MUN is a serious day, but it teaches us that we are trying to solve important national issues together. You are simulating that you are a country, but it isn’t about competition, it is about producing possible solutions for the world.
Make sure to have prepared your opening speech, and while writing it be open minded. You don’t have to know your speech by heart, it’s recommended that you print your speech out so you can take a look sometimes. It is possible that you won’t have enough time to present your speech, then you can use that argumentation that you prepared in the statement in the discussion/debate that comes later.
Perhaps also think about and start the signatory process of resolution, and look for other countries that you can ally with, think about how you can collaborate to solve problems. While you are simulating a country it doesn’t mean that you can not ally with somebody.
