This week, our school will be hosting Kindness Week, a series of events focused on spreading compassion while raising funds and donations for an important cause. All money raised throughout the week will go to the EU Center, a nonprofit organization in Stockholm that provides food, education, and shelter to asylum seekers, refugees, and people experiencing homelessness.
Throughout the week, a variety of activities will take place to encourage kindness, community involvement, and support for the EU Center.
One of the activities available during the week is a Kindness Notes Station. Students will be encouraged to write kind messages and notes, and for every note written, the student will receive a small chocolate as a thank you. Members of the student council will help lead and organize this station, creating a welcoming and positive space for everyone to participate.
Valentine’s themed bake sales will also be hosted in both the Norra Latin building and the main building. These bake sales will feature Valentine’s pastries and candy. In the main building, younger student council members will help with selling, making this a collaborative effort across grade levels.
In addition to fundraising, a canned food donation drive will be organised for the EU Center. This will be run as a friendly competition between advisories or classes to see who can collect the most canned food by the end of the week. The class that donates the most will receive a reward, such as a pizza party, as an incentive to encourage participation.
Another highlight of this week will be movie night on Friday, held in the aula. Where students will be able to enter for free, and be able to buy snacks from the popcorn and bake sale stands. During the movie night, the theme for the middle school dance will also be announced.
The final event is a creative project designed to bring the Grade 6-9 community together. During breaks, student council members will walk around with a “kiss cam” style activity, where students can take a picture together and receive a chocolate. With everyone’s consent, these photos will be printed and placed on a large gray board in the atrium to form a heartshaped collage. Around and between the photos, students will be able to leave notes such as Valentine’s wishes, kind messages, love gossip, or anonymous crushes.
Whether it’s writing a note, buying a treat, or donating food, everyone has a chance to be part of something good this Kindness Week.
