This year, SIS underwent a restructuring, in which familiar faces were given new jobs, so that new ideas and change could come to our school. Mr. Osler, Mr. Boswell, Ms. Oman, Ms. Hellstrom and Mr. Schulte took the new positions of Principal, Head of Learning, DP Vice Principal, MYP VP and IPC VP. The Quirky Quibbler is starting its “Leader Series,” and giving you a chance to acquaint yourself with the new leaders and the fresh ideas they will bring to our school.

A new role has been created in the school called Head of Learning.  Mr. Boswell was teaching  full time – MYP and DP economics but his new role means that he is now teaching fifty percent. New roles are often exciting but what we want to explain is what  the Head of Learning role actually entails?

The re-accreditation process is one of the important aims of the Head of Learning. You might  wonder what this is about.  All schools are accredited with different organisation and that might be why your parents chose this school over another. It could have been the fact that this school has a very high reputation for its quality, and is  accredited with groups such as the MSA (The Middle States Association), the IB ( International Baccalaureate) and the CIS (Council of International Schools).  Every few years the school must provide evidence that it is meeting the standards that are set by these organisations. This is a long process.  As Head of Learning, Mr. Boswell is concerned with the  big picture. Since SIS is a stable school and has already been  through this process several times before, there shouldn’t be any surprises for our new coordinator.

“A well planned schedule and being open to ideas whilst learning is key to success for a better school”  – Paul Boswell

A lot of long term paperwork is needed which is about the status of the school and how things are being done. In 2017 there will be a team  visiting  SIS to check that the paperwork is valid and that we are doing what we have said. If everything goes according to plan, the school will keep its reputation high. Mr. Boswell has been appointed for 3 years.
