“Water connects all things, life to death, darkness to light.”

It has been 13 years since James Cameron’s previous work ‘Avatar’ was released. The sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, is currently grabbing a lot of attention globally, with its realistic visual effects and imaginative fantasy. The movie depicts the relationship between the Na’vi, an indigenous alien species that lives on Pandora, and their dependence on nature. Cameron, once again, emphasizes the message of human responsibility to protect wildlife, which was also present in the first ‘Avatar’ film.

The sequel to ‘Avatar’ has captivated audiences with its visually stunning effects. As technology advances, James Cameron has pushed the limits of what is possible with computer graphics and 3D technology. The result is a fully-realized and immersive world on Pandora, where the indigenous alien species, the Na’vi, live. The film’s aesthetic successfully blurs the lines between fantasy and reality, creating a believable distant universe where both can coexist.

In Avatar, James Cameron criticizes the destruction of the natural habitat, the rainforest, and human-centered thinking by comparing it to the human invasion of Pandora, a fictional,  Earth-like habitat. Similarly, the sequel Avatar: The Way of Water continues this criticism, but shifts the focus from rainforests to the ocean, showing how mankind has lost respect for nature and destroyed it for their own profit. The value of this film lies in making the audience reflect on the behaviors about what we should do now and what direction we should take in the future. Additionally, the film also highlights the importance of love for family.

While it’s not a requirement to watch Avatar: The Way of Water in 3D, the director James Cameron put a lot of effort into the visual design in 3D art. If you want to fully enjoy the film, it is highly recommended to watch it in 3D.
