The MUN board of the future

The SISMUN group has three students who you can expect to see on the board in the future; they are 11th-grade students Aaryan B, David L, and Nekhil B. They have different ambitions for the future of SISMUN and different histories with MUN.  The QQ spoke to each of them to find out about their experience and how they see MUN in the next year.

David

David has been in MUN at SIS since the 7th grade and is now a part of the DP MUN club with experience from numerous conferences, both locally at SIS and internationally. His motivation to join MUN came from his interest in history, geopolitics, and debating important global topics with people his age. His biggest takeaway is that there is never one correct solution but rather multiple options for every problem, each with pros and cons. Visiting the UN headquarters was one of his highlights from the New York trip last year when he had the opportunity to have a professional conference. As a board member, he will strive to make the conferences enjoyable for both those who are a part of MUN and those joining in on the annual  SISMUN conference. He is looking forward to seeing a deeper connection with people from different grade levels.

Nekhil

Nekhil, or Nick, has been in MUN for 5 years, 2 of which were at SIS, but he has participated in public debates since the age of 10. He believes that his skill in public speaking, which has allowed him to be a part of both intra-school and intra-country competitions, is key in MUN and makes him a great candidate for board member. He’s shown extra effort throughout his time at MUN and was also a part of the New York NHSMUN, his favourite conference, which had over 4000 people. Through all of this, he’s learned a lot about how diplomacy works as well as the way in which countries interact in diplomatic contexts. In terms of this year’s SISMUN, he’s mostly interested in seeing how the Saturday conference day turns out as he feels it is more prepared!

Aaryan

Aaryan has been in MUN since 7th grade, actively attending a number of MUN conferences both inside and outside of school. He initially got into MUN to become more confident in public speaking and during this period has come to know the importance of cooperation and teamwork as a group when it comes to working towards solving various global issues. His favourite MUN memory is from the Berlin trip last year, which was his first international trip and where he met students from remote parts of the world. The international trip broadened his views and provided him with valuable knowledge. Throughout his time in MUN, Aaryan has gained noticeable self-confidence and understands the transformative qualities of being an active member of MUN. Now that he has expressed his interest in being a board member, he wishes to contribute his expertise and skill set to support younger students in their MUN journey. He is enthusiastic about the opportunity to bring SISMUN to new heights and evoke an interest in global affairs and diplomacy.
