Kickstarting the school year of 2024-2025 was the SIS cross-country run. The air was crackling with excitement, the uproar from the crowd was an electrifying example of school spirit. At least that’s what the teachers thought. Was the day just an excuse to go outside one morning? Out of the students that tried, how many found it worth it? What happened behind the scenes that day behind the scenes?
Undoubtedly, the house sports day event was arduous. The track entailed an extremely long distance of 5.4km and the students faced the obstacle of unfortunate weather. Despite the rain and the chilly breeze, various participants were determined to take a place and pushed themselves beyond their limits.
There were some who pushed their limits to get a place, while others took the running as a fun event. “It was very tiring afterwards, my muscles ached, but I was very satisfied and happy with myself as I worked hard for first place. A bit disappointed that there were no medals,” said Otto N., the 1st place winner of 11th grade. There were others who enjoyed the achievement of getting first place. “It feels great knowing that I placed first in all of grade 10,” said Haziel M.P.
Additionally, this year’s house captains were announced, at the beginning of the day., This was met by a huge cheer from their respective houses. Their objective this year is to make the house system more engaging, and great.
Congratulations to Air House for placing first at the cross- country event. “I believe we did very well and we gained first place as I believe we usually do at the start of the year. I do believe we could have gained a wider lead over the other houses as I saw many who unfortunately did not live up to their current potential. I just hope we will be able to keep the lead,” said Cy P, 1st place winner of 9th grade.
Finally, the cross country running as one of SIS’ annual events, brings joy (and some despair) to all students, faculty and staff and a wonderful time for the whole school to come together on the day, and a huge salute to the new house captains, leading a new year at SIS.
