Mini MUN in a Nutshell

Momo L. gives a quick summary of the activities in grades 6 and 7.

Mini MUN is a small debate conference for the younger students. It is an introduction to the real MUN . Younger students follow some basic procedures of MUN , but some of the debate will be about fun topics like ice cream. There will also be lots of warm up and a Gossip box. Grade 6 and 7 students will be involved in the debate as they are the delegates. The chairs are from upper school ( DP and middle school students ) who are more experienced and they will be leading each class. This year the head  chairs of the Mini MUN 2023 are Simonna R , Pranav K. There will be 21 chairs in total, 9 chairs  will be working with the 6th graders and twelve chairs with 7th graders. The role of the chairs is to keep control of the group and stick to the MUN procedure.  They need to  know when it is time to call for a resolution and be able to sense the mood if the groups are becoming restless. Based on the past experience, sometimes students are not engaged and get distracted and that is why it’s important that chairs are there to help them and keep them interested. They will also give students hints and help them with MUN procedures.

The topics for Mini MUN 2023 are “ The gross disease we get but can’t catch “ – “Non Communicable diseases” – Grade 7  and “ Frozen Beauty – Antarctica for Grade 6. “   The day starts at 8:30 with attendance. In the mornings there will be icebreakers, and a gossip box. Those will be the warm ups for the real debate. When the debate is closed the chairs will choose the best delegates for each group. The guest speaker will address the whole school in the assembly after lunch
