There are some discussions going through in Committee 4 about the economic impact and jobs related to the opioid epidemic. Chairs have given the delegates time to research the topic if they needed, reducing the pressure and giving the room an atmosphere of calm and steady.
Since the opioid epidemic is not a common topic or students to discuss, especially when it comes to economics and social impacts, some delegates, who are not familiar with the topic, find it quite challenging. Chairs have suggested to the delegates that discussions do not have to be formal matters with facts and accurate statistics and encouraged them to participate more actively. In addition, the chairs have given informative suggestions to students who are participating in MUN for the first time. One idea is to delegates should refrain from using pronouns.
The delegates of Russia, the US, and Turkey have been actively engaging in discussions, while other delegates seem to be a bit more stressed and feel afraid to speak even though they have researched good information.
Nevertheless, all delegates seem to be becoming more confident and engaged in the discussion as the day goes on.
