A Successful First Open Mic

After this year’s SISMUN, Ms. Flint organised the Open Mic. It was set up in the atrium with a few couches and chairs placed facing the microphone and keyboard. A group of around 15 students gathered around and by the time everyone was seated the MC, 9th grade student Yumira, introduced the event.

First was a duet with Lion and Rajat performing ‘Perfect’ acoustically. The crowd was silent, it was a beautiful rendition of Sheeran’s song, however, the second it was over everyone burst into applause.

Following this, there were a few more singing performances on the, along with the keyboard. Nonetheless, it was Skyler’s performance of Welcome to the Internet by Bo Burnham that loosened the audience.

Gioia from 11th grade told a few jokes, some funny, some not so much. Regardless, they inspired a last-minute comedy act that came forward later on in the event.

Nearing the end there were many more singing performances, some of which involved flashlights swaying in the crowd and a few students singing along. There was even an original song performed by Quinn in 6th grade. Perfect was performed a total of three times, all of which were thoroughly enjoyed by the crowd, including our Upper School Principal. Dean of Students, and the performers’ friends.

To end it all off, the MC, Yumira, performed a song by Swedish Eurovision winner Loreen. However, a trio of 11th graders went on stage right after for a last-minute, ‘surprise’ performance of I Want It That Way

All in all, it was a successful event and a great way to decompress after a long day of SISMUN. The next one can be expected on March 6th.
