A panel of four judges; Mr. Smith Mr. Parry, Mr.Arsenio, Ms. Hascher, seated at the front of the auditorium, was tasked to determine the winner. Despite the fact that it took place outside of school hours, many students stayed to watch the performances, and the Aula was packed.
Indeed, the scene was definitely set for Earth House, last year’s winners, when they kicked things off. This year, they performed “Disco 2000” by Pulp and it was a big success. The musicians spent a great amo
unt of time preparing for these performances and practice made perfect. Earth’s rendition of the song was rewarded with applause from the judges and the audience as well. Mr. Parry confessed that if he were to grade it, he would probably give it a “6 or 7”, which received a scatter laughs from the audience.
Water House continued with “Runaway Baby” by Bruno Mars. The judges liked the performance greatly, with the only issue being that the mics malfunctioned.
After this, Air House turned up the pressure with their version of “You Only Live Once” by The Strokes. This was one of my favorites and the vocals were excellent.
However, in the end it was Fire House who ended up in first place. Their choice of song “Everybody Talks” by Neon Trees was popular with the audience as well as the judges. The vocals were harmonious and the enthusiasm from the musicians was remarkable.
The musicians, sound and lighting crews, music department, and house organizers all deserve a round of applause for their efforts this year. Overall, the 2025 Battle of the Bands at SIS was definitely a memorable night this school year, and we are all looking forward to next year’s performances.
