Envision your all-time favorite movie. A cult classic that you have rewatched more times than you can count.
Did it have A-list celebrities rocking its merch for an entire month? Did it make the color orange become trendy? Well Marty Supreme sure did. I mean not every marketing team can get Tom Brady, Frank Ocean and Ringo Starr to wear their movie merchandise.
The hype which surrounded Marty Supreme flooded my phone, the streets and it was all anyone could talk about…last year.
I know, I know, I know, I’m late with this. Marty Supreme orange is out and no celebrity is wearing those stylish jackets anymore. We are simply leaving them behind in 2025. However, with the Oscars coming up and Timothee Chalamet nominated for best actor its relevancy seems to have reemerged.
The first two months of 2026 have been jam packed with concerning world events, worry and this everlasting seasonal depression Stockholm can’t seem to overcome. With the end being near I can’t help but be frozen in time, in the blissful holiday magic. Being with family, sleeping until dinner and having no math tests to study for. What once was this real-life whimsical fantasy now just seems like a far away dream. Around two months ago in December of 2025 everything felt like a utopia. Oh, how I would crystallize to death in that late Swedish February weather to simply go back in time and watch Marty Supreme again.
I am a firm believer that with time comes wisdom and now that it’s been around two months since seeing the iconic film, I am ready to give my honest well thought out review of Marty Supreme.
It has become a sort of an estranged family tradition to watch a Timothee Chalamet movie every holiday break. I confess, for the last three years this annual theme has definitely been pushed more by me but not for any reason in particular… At least we have our own tradition right? This year was no different and I had to drag my brother and father to fulfill the desire to see Timothee Chalamet’s ethereal face on the big screen.
Marty Supreme was a rollercoaster of a watch. The story line was completely unexpected and full of twists and treacherous turns. The film is set in the 50s around this up-and-coming table tennis star based loosely around real life Marty Reisman. In the film Marty was a complete narcissist, there is simply no denying it. It follows the protagonist doing ANYTHING to seek revenge or a come back for him losing a tournament. His mindset is sick and twisted; truly psychotic. However, you find yourself enthralled by his convincing antics. You root for him even though you know it’s wrong; how his actions are not justified but you still want him to win. What is the science behind his charisma?
The obvious and endless list of his mistakes is truly astonishing. He leaves a girl pregnant, steals priceless necklaces and causes multiple deaths.
I could go on and on. He was driven by the fuel to be the best no matter what. He was gifted, sure, but he let his ego get in the way of his success. It is a movie about self reflection, acceptance and resilience.
The real question still remains unanswered, is Marty Supreme a movie about talent or obsession? I would say it is the most delightful combination of both, making it truly one of a kind. It is the type that makes you laugh, cry and causes your jaw to drop on the movie theater floor. It may even motivate you and leave you wanting to live the dream just like Marty Supreme.
