Open Mic is always an opportunity for self-expression and talent sharing; however, this time it was dedicated specifically to honoring our linguistic and cultural diversity. SIS is proud to have learners representing over 60 nationalities.
Students from different grades gathered to share their musical abilities and perform in their mother tongues. The atmosphere was very welcoming, and the audience was extremely supportive. The lunchroom was filled with students cheering for one another, making everyone feel encouraged and proud to perform.
Many brave participants went on stage to sing and even play instruments. Some students had signed up beforehand, while others, inspired in the moment, decided to perform as well. Participants sang in multiple languages, including Japanese, Dutch, Latvian, Swedish, and Telugu. The songs came from different genres, and students represented a multitude of cultures; however, all felt united through music.
The SIS Open Mic was a wonderful way to celebrate the many languages and diverse cultures in our school and acted as a perfect ending to the 2026 Mother Tongue Language week. Check out our video with highlights of the event.
