Bruno R. (Delegate)
It is his first time attending the SIS MUN event. He stated that he is excited to see how the debates would proceed and is happy to represent his viewpoints on Sustainable Energy in Europe as a delegate of Poland. He believes that an important aspect of these MUN debates is how students can openly express their opinions on a global issue and work towards a solution together.
Varun G. (Chair)
Varun is a chair member of Water Sanitation in Megacities Committee 3. He expressed that it is quite an experience as two committees merged into one, accommodating a total of 27 people in a single room. He shared that managing such a large group occasionally has its challenges and that things got out of hand a lot. However, as members of the board, they try their best to keep things under control.
Noémie L. (Chair)
She’s one of the chair members of Sustainable Energy Committee 8, and it’s her first time attending the SIS MUN. She stated that it took her a while to settle in with the MUN atmosphere. As a chair member, she noticed how the delegates were nervous to start with their opening speeches, so the chairs, along with Noémie, decided to break the tense atmosphere by asking the chairs what their favorite Marvel film was. This helped the delegates to interact with one another and start their opening speeches with confidence.
Hannah D. (Delegate)
One of the delegates, a 10th grader, shared her perspective on the SIS MUN proceedings. She expressed that numerous discussions are taking place, but she felt that some of them were not entirely necessary or directly related to the assigned topics and did not contribute to the discussion any further. She pinpointed a particular discussion revolving around the notion of the US agreeing to provide financial assistance to Mexico. According to her, this decision seemed unrealistic considering the political relations between the two countries.
Keerthana M. (Delegate)
She said that all the delegates were actively participating in the discussion, however, she thinks that the discussions were sometimes boring and not interesting, claiming that there wasn’t anything special about the event. She stated that the MUN event that took place last year was more interesting and fun.
Carl G. (Chair)
Head chair for the 6th grade MiniMUN, Carl, expressed his satisfaction with how things were proceeding in room 253. Everything was going well and there we no disturbances. Overall, he is impressed with the engagement and thought that the topic of Frozen Beauty was suitable for the participants.
Millen B. (Co-chair)
Millen is a co-chair for the 7th grade MiniMUN. He has found the topic of malnutrition and disease to be interesting, emphasizing the scientific elements that added depth to the discussion and that various points could be made in relation to it. He says that the preparation for the debate and the overall engagement of participants is impressive. Protocol, on the other hand, was unclear, however, students still made effort to follow it.
We appreciate the delegates and chairs for taking the time to share their experiences with us. Stay tuned for more highlights from our MUN event!
