The last term of SIS for 2025 has been full of house events, and lots of other surprises. Just recently, for instance, we celebrated Nobel day at SIS with a special lunch and dessert in honor of the prizes given out in Stockholm and Oslo. Other notable events in this last semester include the Battle of the Bands and Spirit week. But what do the students of SIS really think of all these events and about the school in general? Is this semester really the spectacular finish that it has been made out to be? I set out to investigate by asking various students from different grades what they thought of this term at Norra Latin.
Sean M., a seventh grade student. mentioned the change in the school lunch provider. Since the beginning of this academic year, SIS has been catered by Hello Fraiche, and it seems like the meals have improved. In addition to kitchen staff, such as Ms.Wandi, who are happy with the new popularity of fish day, students like Sean have also noticed the improvement in the quality of the lunch. Sean thinks that the food has better flavor and taste than previously, and more students are now opting to stay for lunch rather than go out.
Hamza from tenth grade said that the house events have improved, but that there is still work to be done. The Battle of the Bands was a success, but other events like Spirit week were not as popular according to him. Sentiment seems to be that house events should be primarily based on student opinion rather than teacher opinion. This was echoed by Nils from sixth grade, who believes that the teachers should let the students have more decision-making power. The upcoming Secondary School House afternoon seems to be taking this into consideration by including activities such as Clash Royale and Bench Press which have not been typical for SIS in the past.
Overall, this semester at SIS has in large part been a success. Despite the stress many of the twelfth grade students have over the impending exams coming after the break, SIS has improved in many ways. The lunch and house events have gotten better, and students have more decision-making power when it comes to these things than ever before. There is still work to be done in some areas, such as the events, but in summary, SIS is doing very well.
