Earlier this week, Benedicte J. and Astrid H. said that they “are very excited to be debating in MUN, though very nervous.” The mixed emotions are those usually associated with this day, however it may be a sign that it is a necessary learning experience. Being stunted by questions, or an inquiry from another delegate regarding your previous statement, and as a result suddenly becoming mute and blanking out on what to reply, seems to be the major fear.
This morning, when asked what they look the most forward to, Amani S. rapidly answered: “leaving”. Florencia V. is also dreading MUN this year, along with other grade 7 students. Why is this? The girls seem to have a hard time answering, however the concluding reason is both that it is “boring and scary”. To some extent this is understandable, it is a full-length school day and for most of it students sit still waiting to speak – if ever voicing their opinions at all. Potentially if the trend was to speak up and really engage in debates, sessions would be more enjoyable for students; it’s their choice whether or not they make the most of SISMUN 2026.
The girls are aware of the academic benefits, and realise that “you learn more political perspectives in life, and you can learn how to debate professionally,” yet the main focus of their excitement does not lie in the academics.
The highlight of the day for most pupils seems to be the act of dressing up, and many will agree with this statement. It is exciting to walk around in formal attire and see your classmates in skirts and suits, and does allow for a diverting weekday. While some disregard the dress code for the day, the vast majority are wearing nicer attire than usual. Stay tuned for fit-checks coming up later today!
As the day goes on, we hope to see a higher level of engagement and excitement from students, and that by the start of the weekend, students, also the younger ones, will have learned and developed new skills – and have had fun in the process. Only time can tell. Wait and see what the end of the day brings – there is more to come from the Quirky Quibbler.

Maybe they would be more excited about today if you did a “What are you wearing?” segment! (to break the ice) 😉
