MiniMUN: The Early Minds of Change

MiniMUN takes on the harrowing topics of “Our Planet” with a focus on the melting “frozen beauty” of the Earth and “Diets and Digestion”. MiniMUN Secretary General, Naz T. and Under Secretary General, Sahil C. had a lot of input into the MiniMUN planning. Both have a lot of hopes for what the students will take away from an event like this. They communicate directly with the subject teachers to decide what the students are learning to make the discussion as applicable to their current learning.

Naz, who is planning on already studying medicine at university, found the topic of noncommunicable diseases crucial to incorporate into further discussions calling it “A very underappreciated topic” as malnutrition extends beyond just not having enough food but the uneven distribution of it. She hopes that MiniMUN will give the students more to talk about when approaching this topic in further discussions.

Shail, who has been involved in environmental classes here at SIS, aspires for MiniMUN to be a place where students can explore the factors and effects of climate change. He hopes that MiniMUN will also allow students to exert their critical thinking skills and collaboration as they form creative solutions to a pertinent global issue.

“That’s just what MUN is. To teach you to find the middle ground”

— Naz Toygar

MiniMUN strives to create a space where students can explore the pressing issues that we all face. It allows for students to debate, listen, and learn in hopes of finding a compromise that betters everyone.
